Journaling is the practice of writing down your thoughts regularly. It can help people to process their emotions, experiences and supports reflection. Tiptoe Creatives are monthly journaling groups for adults in Clacton-on-Sea.​

​

There are two groups. One is for people living with a mental health condition and one is for people living with Autism. 

​

​The sessions support people to try different journaling techniques and explore themes such as mindfulness and self-expression.

Who is it for?

These journaling groups are for anyone who wants to explore journaling and creative writing to help their wellbeing. 

​​

There is a choice of two groups. One is for one for people living with a mental health condition and one for people living with Autism. If you live with both conditions, please select the group you feel would be most beneficial to your wellbeing (you can only join one group)​​.​​ You don't need to have a formal diagnosis.

​

All group members must be over 18 years old and live in the Tendring area of Essex, UK.

When and where?

The groups begin in June 2026 and continue for one year until June 2027.

  • We meet once a month

  • Always on a Wednesday

  • Always 1pm - 3pm

​

We meet in-person at SUMMIT House, 14-16 Orwell Road, Clacton-on-Sea, Essex CO15 1PP.

Is it free?

Yes! It's completely free to attend and all of the materials will be provided. There will be refreshments provided as well.​

This 12-month programme is kindly funded by the Coastal Lives Foundation.

What's included?

  • An introduction to journaling for wellbeing and an opportunity to try a range of creative writing techniques in a safe, supportive way

  • A friendly group space to meet people and form connections

  • A structured format

  • All of the materials you will need to journal and take part in each session

What is expected of you?

  • Make a commitment to attend the sessions each month

  • Bring an open-minded, kind, curious approach to the group

  • You won't be forced to share anything you don't want to

  • Complete a form at the beginning, middle and end of the course so we can see if we are making a difference

  • Share your feedback throughout the 12 months with Laura

How is it evaluated?

Throughout the year, Laura will evaluate how things are going by asking for feedback from group members - positive and negative.

​

You will also be asked to complete a WEMWBS Form before, during and after the course. This stands for Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale - it's a way for us to measure if the journaling groups improve your wellbeing.

​

All of the data and feedback we collect is anonymous, unless you tell us otherwise. We'll keep it safe and won't share anything publicly that can identify you.

Please note...

Please note that these groups do not offer therapy in any way. You may find journaling therapeutic and beneficial for your wellbeing, but this is not a clinical service.

All groups run from 1pm until 3pm.

Dates for 2027 will be announced nearer the time.

Meet Laura

Meet Laura

Tiptoe Creatives is hosted by Laura May, a writer from Clacton-on-Sea.​

​

Laura has published three collections of poetry and a novella and in her spare time, is undertaking a PhD in poetry at the University of Suffolk. Laura has been writing a diary since childhood and finds it helps her manage her mental health.

​

Laura brings her own lived experience of a mental health condition and Autism to Tiptoe Creatives, offering a warm welcome to anyone who wants to explore journaling for wellbeing.​​
